NEID Book Discussion – City of Thorns

December 5, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Rye, NH, exact location to be shared with those that RSVP
Sasha Chanoff, Founder and Executive Director of RefugePoint, will facilitate a book discussion on City of Thorns at a private residence on New Hampshire’s Seacoast. The book is an intimate and gripping portrayal of nine individuals who live in the Daadaab refugee camp in Kenya, the largest refugee camp in the world. The author, Ben Rawlence, worked as a researcher for Human Rights Watch in Africa, and has interwoven into the narrative the historical background of conflicts in the Horn of Africa that drive people to the camps. The book also reveals the politics that motivate or stymie response by international humanitarian agencies and organizations. Don’t miss this book that seeps into your soul.  For reviews read the New York Times and Goodreads.
Dinner will be served, followed by the book discussion. Directions, book notes, discussion questions and bios on guests will be circulated a couple days before the gathering.
This is a NEID members-only event. Please contact us at neid@neidonors.org if you would like to attend or learn more about the event.
